Did you know Chiropractors diagnose and treat a variety of conditions in the periphery of our body (think ankle/knee/wrist/elbow/shoulder)!
Medial & Lateral Epicondylitis – commonly referred to as Golfers & Tennis Elbow.
Contrary to their names, these conditions are seen amongst the wider population (not just golfers and tennis players!).
They both begin with:
- Repetitive and/or forceful movement of the forearm and wrist.
- Trigger points begin to develop in the forearm flexor and extensor muscles respectively. Pain and swelling then follow where the muscle tendon inserts at the elbow.
- This results in moderate to severe forearm pain on active movement, reduced range of motion and in some cases weakness of grip.
So what can you do for it?
Chiropractors will assess the biomechanical loading/overloading of the elbow and wrist. We then use a combination of; muscular release work, dry needling and adjustments to restore normal tone and movement. Of course, no treatment would be complete without some home care stretching exercises!
